Branding and Logos
Public Affairs provides guidelines for developing a coherent, recognizable and unified graphic identity for Cal Poly Pomona.

The graphic standards must be applied to all communications developed by all colleges, schools and/or other university units. Adhering to them will ensure that all print, electronic and environmental communications convey our “brand” to the world, build recognition and ensure a strong identity. Identity Campaign — Public Affairs, under the Office of University Relations, provides materials related to the university’s Identity Campaign, which launched fall 2009. The university hopes to strengthen and unify its brand through a long-term and multi-channel campaign. The campaign features dramatic black and white images that highlight the university’s successful polytechnic approach, which provides valuable hands-on learning opportunities for students. Electronic Marquee — In partnership with Parking &Transportation Services, Public Affairs manages the electronic marquee signs at the corner of Temple Avenue and Valley Boulevard as well as on Kellogg Drive near the 10 freeway off-ramp. The university’s electronic marquees are used to communicate major university-related activities or news. Their use is available to university-recognized organizations and activities sponsored by departments. The marquees may also be used to publicize community, state, or national events that pertain to the university. Emergency Communication — In the event of an emergency, Public Affairs will assist Cal Poly Pomona in providing crucial information as quickly as the situation allows. Information will be distributed through a variety of sources including: the Safety Alert System (a voice, e-mail, text message blast), university email, the Cal Poly Pomona home page, PolyCentric online news, the Emergency Hotline at (866) 869-POLY (7659), electronic marquees and more. Mass Email Communication — Outside of emergency communication and publications, Public Affairs managers are moderators of the university mass email system. Employees who wish to email large categories of people, such as all students, all faculty, all staff and all auxiliary staff should contact their division moderator approval manager for more information. Mass email communication is limited to safety issues and issues that have been designated university priorities.

Media relations functions include building relationships with media representatives, developing and targeting distribution of news releases, responding to inquiries from reporters, and identifying expert sources among faculty and staff. Experts Online — Experts Online is an easy-to-use online directory that lists the specialties of hundreds of Cal Poly Pomona scholars, professionals and administrators. The Office of Public Affairs created Experts Online as a resource for journalists seeking specialists to comment on issues, individuals and organizations looking for speakers, and academics to identify opportunities for research collaboration. Public Affairs manages the university’s brand and visual identity, including the Cal Poly Pomona logo, logotype and photographic services. University photographs are available for use by recognized campus entities. The Cal Poly Pomona Zenfolio Photo web site provides sales of prints and other photo products. Annual Report and Honor Roll of Giving — The Annual Report celebrates the academic year’s achievements and recognizes the university’s supporters. The publication highlights altruistic people and organizations that have made an impact on the university, ranging from volunteering their time and setting up scholarship endowments to assisting in capital projects and supporting research. Annual Report is released in November to recognize the university’s accomplishments from July 1 of the previous year to June 30 of the current year. View the Annual Report online.

Panorama Magazine — A friendly tabloid magazine, Panorama is meant to inform, invite and involve the university’s alumni and extended community. Issues in Fall and Spring. View the Panorama archives online.
PolyAlumni — A monthly e-newsletter produced by the offices of Alumni Affairs and Public Affairs, PolyAlumni is emailed monthly to more than 20,000 alumni, keeping them in touch with their alma mater through the latest campus news, upcoming events, class notes and Alumni Spotlight. PolyUpdates Email — Poly Updates is an informational email newsletter for faculty and staff to stay informed about news and events on campus. Poly Updates is delivered every Monday during the academic year and biweekly during the summer. Submissions are voluntary and subject to editing and approval by the Office of Public Affairs. With the goal of creating a sense of community, engaging readers, and encouraging dialogue, Public Affairs manages the university’s official social media accounts on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. We partner with MediaVision in managing the university YouTube channel. Alumni Affairs hosts the campus’s LinkedIn group. Upon request, we can provide social media consultation.
